Description
Multiflower false Rhodes grass is a native, warm season perennial bunchgrass that reaches 5’ or more at maturity. It is found throughout the southern third of Texas in the South Texas Brush Country, Sand Sheet, Lower Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes, extreme eastern portion of the Trans Pecos, and extreme southern part of the Edwards Plateau. It is well adapted to most soil types in these areas ranging from sand and sandy loams to heavy alkaline/saline clays. Multiflower false Rhodes grass was historically a dominant native grass species of rangelands and prairies in South Texas. It produces abundant forage, rivaling production of introduced forage grasses such as Kleingrass and buffelgrass. It also provides outstanding wildlife cover. It is recommended for use in range restoration, upland wildlife plantings, forage plantings, and for diversifying monotypic stands of invasive grasses.
