A native perennial, warm-season, bunchgrass with short rhizomes and rather coarse stems. A robust, vigorous plant, 3-8 feet tall, with coarse leaves blue to pea-green colored and panicles 8-12 inches long, bronze to yellow colored. Flowers in late September and October and spreads by seed and rhizomes. Cold and drought tolerant; a very palatable grass. Cheyenne is best suited for thenorthern portions of Texas and into the great plains.
