A native perennial, warm-season, bunchgrass with short rhizomes and rather coarse stems. A robust, vigorous plant, 3-8 feet tall, with coarse leaves blue to pea-green colored and panicles 8-12 inches long, bronze to yellow colored. Flowers in late September and October and spreads by seed and rhizomes. Cold and drought tolerant; a very palatable grass. Lometa is best adapted to most of Texas where rainfall is over 25" annually. Cheyenne is best suited to the northern portions of Texas and up into the great plains.
