Brewster Sideoats Grama is a native, warm season perennial bunchgrass that grows 3-5’ at maturity. This selection originates from and is well adapted to the Trans Pecos, Rolling Plains, and western Edwards Plateau. Sideoats grama is good livestock forage and provides important cover for wildlife, especially as a nesting substrate for quail. It is adapted to most soil types with the exception of very sandy soils. Best uses are for range and wildlife habitat restoration and revegetation of energy and transportation right-of-ways.
Brewster Sideoats Grama was developed for release by the Texas Native Seeds Program, the USDA NRCS Kingsville Plant Materials Center, and the Borderlands Research Institute. It is the best adapted variety of Sideoats Grama for use in West Texas. Douglass King Seed Company is a licensed producer of the release. Sideoats grama is the State Grass of Texas.
