Dilley Slender Grama is native, warm season perennial bunchgrass that reaches 1-2’ at maturity. Slender grama is native to the Rio Grande Plain, Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes, Post Oak Savannah, and South Texas Sand Sheet regions of Texas. Grazing value of slender grama is good, however overall forage production is low. The plant provides valuable wildlife cover in early successional habitats. Slender grama is a standout plant for erosion control, revegetation of denuded sites, and in range and wildlife habitat restoration seed mixes. Use of Dilley slender grama for highway and energy right of way plantings has been extensively tested and the species has reliably had outstanding performance in these contexts.
Dilley Slender grama is blend of 4 collections from the Rio Grande Plains released by the Texas Native Seeds Program and USDA NRCS Kingsville Plant Materials Center. Individual plants are long lived, and Dilley Slender Grama frequently reseeds itself. Plants are easy to establish from seed and grow vigorously after planting. Douglass King Seed Company is a licensed producer of Dilley Slender Grama.
