Giant bermudagrass is an introduced, warm season perennial turfgrass that grows up to 2’ in height. Originally from Africa, NK-37 is a selected strain of common Bermudagrass increased by Northrup, King & Co., in Arizona. Giant bermudagrass is tall, fine-stemmed, with long slender leaves. It spreads from seed, rhizomes and stolons, and has a slight tendency to form a sod.
Giant bermudagrass is known for its tall and vigorous growth and rapid recovery after cutting or grazing during warm summer months. Because of its quick recovery after frequent cutting, it has repeatedly cut more pounds of green weight per acre than other grasses on a yearlong basis. Relished by all types of livestock, but not recommended for wildlife.
Planting: Plant in the spring at a rate of 3-5 lbs. per acre at 1/4 inch deep.
Soil: Well drained soils in full sunlight
Height: 4-18 inches
