Santiago Silver Bluestem is a native, warm season perennial bunchgrass growing 3-5’ at maturity. This selection is adapted to the Trans Pecos, western Edwards Plateau, and southern Rolling Plains regions of Texas. It provides fair livestock forage and good cover for wildlife. Silver bluestem is typically highly competitive with many introduced grasses. It should be used for range and wildlife habitat restoration and revegetation on energy and transporation rights-of-way.
Santiago Silver bluestem was developed for release by the Texas Native Seeds Program, the USDA NRCS Kingsville Plant Materials Center, and the Borderlands Research Institute. It is an excellent choice for restoration plantings in West Texas. Douglass King Seed Company is a licensed producer of the release.
