Short Description: Sideoats grama is a native, warm season perennial bunchgrass that grows 1-3’ at maturity. It is a widely adapted native grass selection that performs well throughout the state. Sideoats grama is excellent livestock forage, and provides good nesting cover for quail. It is strongly rhizomatous and also spreads both by seed. Common uses include for range and wildlife habitat restoration, erosion control, and for energy and transportation right-of-way revegetation.

Sideoats grama is excellent livestock forage, and provides good nesting cover for quail.  It is strongly rhizomatous, and spreads both by seed and vegetatively.  Common uses include for range and wildlife habitat restoration, erosion control, and for energy and transportation right-of-way revegetation.

There are multiple varieties of sideoats grama that are adapted to different regions.  Haskell Sideoats is a mainstay of native grass seed mixes for much of Texas.  It performs well in most regions and reliably emerges.  It was originally collected near Haskell, Texas.  El Reno Sideoats is adapted to regions of northern and central Texas and was originally collected in Oklahoma.  South Texas Sideoats is adapated to all of South Texas regions and was originally collected from multiple locations in South Texas.
