Description
Sand dropseed is a native, perennial bunchgrass growing 3-5’ in height. It is common native grass on many soil types throughout Texas. It provides fair forage for livestock and is utilized as a food source by game birds, including quail and Rio Grande turkey. This native grass exhibits good establishment characteristics on highly disturbed soils, making it a great option for ecologic restoration projects and commercial right-of-way revegetation. It is a common component of range and wildlife habitat restoration seed mixes and can provide quick cover during periods of low moisture availability.
Nueces Sand Dropseed was developed from several collections obtained across South Texas by the Texas Native Seeds Program and the USDA NRCS Kingsville Plant Materials Center.
