It is compatible in plantings with other native species. Hairy Grama’s fast seed production, establishment, and spreading habit make it an excellent planting choice for highly disturbed sites like highway rights of way or areas susceptible to erosion. It also has fair value as livestock forage. Fair forage value and excellent choice for right-of-way applications. Please call to place an order (210) 661-4191. Description

Chaparral hairy grama is a native, warm season perennial bunchgrass that grows to about 1’ in height. It performs well on all soil types on well drained sites in south, central, and west Texas. Hairy grama is a fair to good forage and it provides good cover for wildlife. Chaparral is an excellent species for inclusion in range and wildlife habitat restoration seedings, and for erosion control and revegetation on energy and transportation rights-of-way.

Hairy grama is a common and important grass of Texas rangelands from the Blackland Prairies west to the Trans Pecos. Chaparral was developed by the Texas Native Seeds Program in collaboration with the USDA NRCS E. “Kika” de la Garza Plant Materials Center. Douglass King Seed Company is a licensed producer of Chaparral Hairy Grama.
