Description
Curly Mesquite, also known as curly mesquite grass, is a native, warm-season, perennial sod- grass with creeping stolons which root at the leafy nodes surrounded by rings of hair. Plants are 4-10’ in height. Curly mesquite is widely adapted to the western two thirds of Texas, and is typically found on tighter soils and rocky areas. It is a common component in range seeding mixes for central and west Texas. Curly mesquite is also a major species of native lawn blends, including Habiturf.
This grass is currently available in limited quantities and used primarily in Habiturf for native lawn plantings.
Planting: Plant in the spring, with plenty of exposure to sun, at a rate of 3-6 lb. pure live seed (PLS) per acre. Establishes best in clay and clay loam soils.
Soil: Grows in variety of soils, but best suited to clay and clay loams.
