Description

Halls Panicum is a native, warm season perennial bunchgrass that grows 2-4’ in height. It is found on clay and loam soils throughout the Rio Grande Plain, Gulf Coast Prairie and Marshes, Edwards Plateau, and Trans Pecos. Oso Halls Panicum is fair forage for livestock, and produces seeds eaten by dove, quail, turkeys, and other birds. It is an excellent addition to range and wildlife habitat restoration seed mixes, provides fast establishment and erosion control on denuded sites, and performs well in right-of-way revegetation plantings. It is also an effective native grass option for restoration of slightly saline and alkaline sites.

Oso Hall’s Panicum is a blend comprised of two collections from Nueces and Cameron counties in the Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes of South Texas. It was developed for release by the USDA NRCS Kingsville Plant Materials Center and the Texas Native Seeds Program.
