WEBB WHIPLASH PAPPUSGRASS
Short Description:
The Webb Whiplash Pappusgrass is a blend of 3 populations from the South Texas Plains. Whiplash pappusgrass often occurs in mixed stands with pink pappusgrass. It is recommended for its use in diversifying invasive monocultures, and its ability to propagate in saline-alkaline soils makes it a great choice for restoration projects. It also has fair value as livestock forage. Fair forage for livestock, provides nesting for grassland birds, and is excellent as a restoration species. Please call to place an order (210) 661-4191. Our Texas Natives are certified “Selected Texas Native Germplasm” by the Texas Department of Agriculture. Description
Whiplash Pappusgrass is a native, warm season perennial bunchgrass that reaches 3-5’ at maturity. It is a common native grass species in the South Texas Plains, Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes, and Trans Pecos regions of Texas on clay and loamy soils. It is tolerant of saline and alkaline soils. Whiplash Pappusgrass is fair forage for livestock and provides critical wildlife cover on many rangelands that support very few other grasses.
Webb Whiplash Pappusgrass is a blend of 3 populations from the South Texas Plains developed for release by the Texas Native Seeds Program and the USDA NRCS Kingsville Plant Materials Center. Whiplash Pappusgrass often occurs in mixed stands with Pink Pappusgrass.
