Short Description: Sideoats grama is the official State Grass of Texas. The South Texas Germplasm is a blend of 6 collections from Atascosa, Frio, Medina, Uvalde, and Val Verde counties. Its wide distribution and value as livestock forage make it an important pasture grass statewide, and the South Texas release shows superior vigor and production compared to other available releases grown in South Texas. Good forage for livestock and cover for ground nesting birds. Also used for right-of-way planting and oil/gas reclamation. Please call to place an order (210) 661-4191. Our Texas Natives are certified “Selected Texas Native Germplasm” by the Texas Department of Agriculture. Each variety is of a specific ecotype of its species that was locally sourced from counties in Texas.

Description

Sideoats grama is the official State Grass of Texas. It is a native, warm season perennial bunchgrass that grows 3-5’ at maturity. South Texas Sideoats Grama is adapted to sandy loam and heavy textured soils in the Rio Grande Plain, southern Edwards Plateau, and eastern Trans Pecos. South Texas Sideoats provides good forage for livestock and valuable cover for quail and other wildlife. It is an excellent component for range and wildlife habitat restoration seed mixes and for energy and transporation right-of-way revegetation.

South Texas Sideoats Grama is a blend of 6 collections from Atascosa, Frio, Medina, Uvalde, and Val Verde counties developed by the Texas Native Seeds Program and the USDA NRCS Kingsville Plant Materials Center. South Texas Sideoats has superior vigor, forage production, and establishment ability compared to other available releases when grown in South Texas.
