Cheyenne Indiangrass is a native, perennial, warm-season, bunchgrass with short rhizomes and coarse stems. It is a very palatable and nutritious forage for cattle and horses during the growing season. Indiangrass grows 3-8 feet tall, with blue to pea-green colored leaves. The seedheads are 8-12 inches long and are bronze to yellow colored. Cheyenne Indiangrass matures from September through October and spreads both by seed and rhizomes. Cheyenne Indiangrass is broadly adapted to the northern half of Texas and the Great Plains. It is a common component of range and wildlife habitat restoration seed mixes and is also used frequently in erosion control and reclamation plantings.
