Description
Curly Mesquite, also known as curly mesquite grass, is a native, warm-season, perennial sod- grass with creeping stolons which root at the leafy nodes surrounded by rings of hair. Plants are 4-10" in height. Curly mesquite is widely adapted to the western two thirds of Texas, and is typically found on tighter soils and rocky areas. It is a common component in range seeding mixes for central and west Texas. Curly mesquite is also a major species of native lawn blends, including Habiturf.
This grass is currently available in limited quantities and used primarily in Habiturf for native lawn plantings.
Planting
Plant in the spring, with plenty of exposure to sun, at a rate of 3-6 lb. pure live seed (PLS) per acre. Establishes best in clay and clay loam soils.
