Description

Welder Shortspike Windmillgrass is naturally occurring hybrid between hooded and tumble windmillgrasses. It is a native, perennial bunch- or sod-grass which produces seed and also spreads vegetatively by stolons. The mature foliage height ranges from 1-3’ tall. Welder is a fair to good forage, and it provides excellent erosion control and soil stabilization qualities on a wide range of soil types. These characteristics make it a common component of range and reclamation seed mixes throughout the state.

Welder Shortspike Windmillgrass was developed and released by the USDA NRCS Kingsville Plant Materials Center and the Texas Native Seeds Program. Welder is a fast establishing and quick growing native grass.
